Community Programming Advisor
S&E Residences
3 positions

Throughout the academic year, the CPAs will focus on delivering inclusive, meaningful programs; supporting and mentoring student staff; and collaborating with campus partners to expand opportunities for connection, learning and well-being. Working closely with the ADRE, Residence Life Coordinators (RLCs), and Residence Education Coordinators (RECs), they help create dynamic, responsive programming that reflects evolving student needs and fosters belonging, academic success, and personal growth.
As key members of our team, the CPAs contribute to the planning, delivery, and evaluation of programming and initiatives that span a range of focus areas, including community engagement, academic success, wellness, personal development, and equity, diversity, and inclusion. They also play an active role in supporting the recruitment, hiring, and training of future student leaders—helping to ensure a strong, values-driven team for the academic year ahead.
Programming Development and Mentorship
CPAs will provide mentorship, feedback, and guidance to Dons and Academic Programmers to strengthen their programming and collaborate with the Residence Education Coordinators to track and review submissions of Self-Directed Community Programs. CPAs will support Engineering Programming Ambassadors, Academic Mentors, and Programming Assistants with program planning, implementation, and evaluation, in addition to facilitating student staff training sessions to ensure effective program delivery and leadership development.
They will also assist with the development and delivery of building-wide programming tailored to the needs of students, such as Orientation, Winter Break Programming, and Reading Week.
Pop-Up Programming and Marketing/Communications
CPAs will develop and deliver bi-weekly pop-up programming and monthly building-wide events to foster community engagement. Update designated community boards to reflect community needs and themes. Create and disseminate marketing and communications materials across TV displays, newsletters, and social media platforms.
Student Support and Assessment
CPAs will promote a community of care by responding appropriately to students experiencing difficulties and referring them to appropriate supports. They will follow all procedures regarding confidentiality and professionalism. They will gather feedback from students and staff to inform continuous improvement of programming and support services. CPAs will also maintain strong communication channels to ensure transparency and responsiveness within the residence community.
In addition to the responsibilities, the Community Programming Advisor will be responsible for the oversight of assigned portfolio(s). Portfolio(s) may include:
Social Media
Lead the development of timely, engaging short-form video content for marketing events, digital campaigns, and staff highlights, distributed across various mediums. Oversee the poster approval process, reviewing submissions from both internal and external community members, providing feedback, and issuing final approval for posting. Additionally, this portfolio lead will create posters at the request of the REC and ADRE.
Programming Supplies/Inventory Management
Coordinate inventory maintenance and restocking of programming equipment, supplies, and resources in each residence and request supplies as needed. Manage the printing and organization of weekly poster distributions for Dons. Develop and maintain an organized calendar system to communicate programming deadlines and create and update a residence-wide events calendar to ensure all Residence Life Staff are informed and aligned. Additionally, this coordinator will support material acquisition and lending system between Residence Councils, Chestnut Student Lounge, and residence sites.
Mental Health Programming
Lead the development of mental health initiatives across residences, including both facilitated and self-directed programs. Collaborate with the Residence Life team to stay informed on mental health trends and use this information to guide programming. In addition, collaborate with campus partners and resources, including the Community Crisis Response Coordinator (Campus Safety), the Peer Support Team (Campus Life), and the Health & Wellness team.
Student Staff Initiatives & Campus Partner Collaboration
Support the REC in mentoring and guiding student staff Committees and Clubs, helping them plan, execute, and evaluate initiatives that enhance residence. Additionally, they will assist with broader residence-wide initiatives, and collaborate with campus partners, such as: Housing Services, Hart House, MoveU, Learning Strategists,
Discovery Pharmacy, and others, to coordinate programs, share resources, and strengthen engagement opportunities for students.
Other
- Provide operational and administrative support to the Residence Life Office, which may include documentation, communication, data tracking, or event logistics depending on the residence cycle.
- Participate in regular team meetings and planning sessions to align programming and operations with broader residence goals.
- Other duties as assigned, which may include project-based work, committee participation, and collaborative initiatives across S&E Residences.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience working in Higher Education programming/event planning is required.
- Experience planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating programs designed to support student success in the post-secondary setting.
- Demonstrated skills working with diverse students and student groups is required.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills. - Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to connect authentically with residents and encourage meaningful engagement.
- Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and work independently.
- Strong written and oral communication and public speaking skills are required.
Experience with StarRez, Canva, and social media content creation. - College Diploma in a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
Be a registered full-time graduate or second-entry student at the University of Toronto throughout the 2026-2027 academic year.
Term: July 2026 – May 2027
Number of Positions: 3 positions
Compensation: $27.01/hour
Hours Per Week: Up to 20 hours per week (majority of contract)
Schedule: A weekly schedule will be developed with a mix of weekday, weekend, and evening work required.
Residence Don
Graduate House

Community Building
Residence Dons cultivate a welcoming community by following the Residence Curriculum and organizing events and activities that encourage resident engagement, and foster connections between residents. They maintain a visible presence in their common spaces and community and provide outreach to residents in person and through email. Residence Dons support Floor Representatives and Residence Council initiatives and promote involvement in orientation and other events or initiatives.
Student Support
Serving as positive role models, Residence Dons demonstrate responsible behavior, good academic standing, and professionalism. Residence Dons build trust and foster well-being while engaging in intentional conversations with residents, practice active listening, and provide referrals to residence and/or campus resources while maintaining confidentiality and sound judgement.
Community Management
Residence Dons uphold university and residence policies by enforcing community standards and responding to incidents promptly and professionally. They facilitate roommate agreements, mediate conflicts, and maintain harmony within the residence. On-call responsibilities include conducting rounds, responding to queries and emergencies in-person, and ensuring building safety and security. Through consistent presence and accountability, Residence Dons help create a safe and respectful living environment for all residents.
Administration
Residence Dons submit: programming proposals and evaluations, reimbursements, and incident reports in a timely manner. Residence Dons communicate regularly with Residence Staff, attend all scheduled meetings, training sessions, and professional development sessions. They also assist with move-in and move-out procedures, Fall Campus Day, Residence Don hiring, residence tours, and room inspections. In addition to on call shifts, Residence Dons are also scheduled on a rotating basis to assist with assigned Residence Don tasks within the building.

- Hold a Standard First Aid and CPR certification valid throughout the contract period.

- Experience living at Graduate House is highly desirable, though not required.
To be considered for this position, applicants must:
- Be a registered full-time graduate or second-entry student at the University of Toronto.
- Be available to work approximately 15 hours per week, with a mixture of scheduled dates/times, in addition to self-scheduled work (this includes to rotational overnight (5PM-9AM) and weekend (9AM-9AM) on call shifts).
- Be willing to live primarily at Graduate House Residence throughout the duration of employment.
- Have an ongoing in-person presence and in-person interaction with students in residence.
- Be able to attend all components of the mandatory training program (dates TBD).
- Be in good academic standing as most recently assessed by the University of Toronto.
- Have no outstanding Fall 2025 balance on ACORN as of December 2025.
- Residence Dons must be available to move into residence in early/mid April.
Residence Dons are welcome to accept other employment within or outside of the University, so long as it does not conflict or interfere with the fulfillment of their employment obligations in residence.
Many duties and responsibilities of a Residence Don are responsive to circumstances affecting the residence and its residents and are often spontaneous and incapable of being scheduled.
Residence Dons are expected to promptly and appropriately address all such circumstances.
Residence Dons are required to remain on campus until at least the day after the last day of undergraduate exams in both December and April and should be prepared to work during reading weeks and long weekends on campus.
Each Residence Don will be assigned a room in Graduate House Residence valid during the employment contract period. In accordance with Canada Revenue Agency requirements, the value of the accommodation, as well as the meal stipend are considered taxable income.
As per the USW Residence Don MOA, Article 18, wages will be paid in recurring equal monthly instalments over the period of employment of the Residence Don equal to:
- Fifty per cent (50%) of the fee for a standard single room.
- A monthly meal stipend of $376.41 (as there is no meal plan provided)
- Notes:
- The amount above will also have applicable deductions before the final amount is issued.
- The amount(s) will be pro-rated for any period of residence closure (e.g. December or January, etc.) or any partial month of employment.
- As required by Article 18:04 of the Collective Agreement, a monthly deduction will be taken from these regular monthly net wages for the cost of the assigned room (billed at 50% of the fee for a standard single room)

Lounge Manager
Chestnut Residence

The Chestnut Student Lounge is a central community space at Chestnut Residence where students can play ping pong, board games, or simply relax and socialize. It also serves as a venue for student leaders to host large events and workshops for the entire building, such as Super Bowl watch parties and résumé-writing workshops.
The CSLM will recruit, train, and organize volunteer staff known as Chestnut Student Lounge Ambassadors, who will help operate the space. Each ambassador is responsible for one three-hour shift per week, during which they help maintain a friendly and welcoming atmosphere in the Lounge, assist with setting up audiovisual equipment, and manage the sign-out of equipment for games and activities.
The CSLM will be supported and supervised by the Residence Education Coordinator, who will provide learning and professional development opportunities. This is an excellent role for someone who wants to pursue future positions that support the student experience at Chestnut and beyond.
- Recruit, hire, and train a team of approximately 18 student volunteers, each responsible for a weekly three-hour shift.
- Foster a positive and collaborative team environment, providing support with minor conflict resolution and escalating concerns to the Residence Education Coordinator as needed.
- Plan, organize, and facilitate regular team meetings for Chestnut Student Lounge Ambassadors.
Support the management of the Lounge’s online booking system, including
maintaining accurate records in Excel. - Assist with coordinating bookings and logistics for events held in the Lounge.
- Create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for students using the space (and ensure Ambassadors do too)
- Track and document operational challenges and communicate them to the Residence Education Coordinator.
- Serve as a student representative at Residence Affairs Committee meetings, contributing student perspectives to enhance the residence experience.
- Meet regularly with a Chestnut Residence Council representative to coordinate around events, bookings, and Lounge-related purchases.
- Meet regularly with the Residence Education Coordinator to receive guidance, address challenges, and engage in ongoing coaching and professional development.
- Full-time University of Toronto student in good academic standing
Entering second year of undergraduate studies or above - Experience and passion for fostering inclusive community spaces
- Exceptionally strong attention to detail
- Exceptionally strong initiative to follow-up with people and ensure logistics are confirmed
- Professional online communication skills, especially by email
- Experience leading a team (preference for experience hiring and training a team as well)
- Preferred: Past or present Chestnut student
- Asset: Experience assigning shifts or managing schedules for a team
- Asset: Customer service experience
- Asset: Basic knowledge of Excel
The CSLM will be hired as a casual employee of the University of Toronto and will be compensated for the full academic year. The hourly wage is $20/hour. The time commitment of the role is variable from week to week. However, successful applicants can expect to work 4-8 hours on average. Meetings with the Residence Education Coordinator will occur during office hours and most of the other work will happen in the evenings or on your own schedule.
Training will be scheduled for a single day in late July or early August, at a time that is convenient for the successful candidate. This can be done online if the successful candidate is not in Toronto.
Regular work will start August 28.
